At Total Eye Care, we are committed to providing our patients with the latest advanced vision correction options. One such option is EVO Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL), an innovative and effective procedure for those seeking a long-term solution for refractive errors such as nearsightedness.
What is EVO ICL?
EVO ICL is an implantable contact lens made from a biocompatible Collamer material. Unlike regular contact lenses, which sit on the surface of the eye, EVO ICL is placed inside the eye, between the iris and the natural lens. The procedure permanently corrects refractive errors while leaving the eye’s natural structure intact.
How EVO ICL Works to Correct Vision
EVO ICL works by focusing light correctly onto the retina, the part of the eye that processes visual information. Placing the lens inside the eye helps the EVO ICL to refocus light for clearer vision. The implanted lens does not require any maintenance, and because the Collamer material is biocompatible, it works seamlessly with your natural eye structures.
Am I a Candidate for EVO ICL?
Being a candidate for EVO ICL depends on a few factors, which we will assess during your consultation at Total Eye Care. Generally, ideal candidates for the procedure are:
- Between the ages of 21 and 45
- Have moderate to high myopia (nearsightedness), with or without astigmatism
- Have a stable vision prescription for at least a year
- Are not good candidates for LASIK due to thin corneas or dry eye syndrome
- Prefer a procedure that is reversible and does not alter the cornea
Benefits of EVO ICL
EVO ICL offers several benefits that make it an appealing choice for vision correction:
- No Corneal Alteration
- Reversibility
- Improved Night Vision
- UV Protection
- Quick Recovery
What to Expect From the EVO ICL Procedure
The EVO ICL procedure typically takes around 20 to 30 minutes per eye. To ensure comfort during the procedure, anesthetic eye drops are applied to numb your eyes. A small incision is then made at the edge of the cornea, and the EVO ICL lens is gently inserted behind the iris, where it remains invisible and does not alter the appearance of the eye. Your eye doctor carefully adjusts the lens to ensure optimal placement and vision correction.
Recovery and Results After EVO ICL Surgery
Following EVO ICL surgery, you will experience a rapid recovery with minimal discomfort. Some patients notice improved vision as soon as the day after surgery, and most people return to their regular activities within a few days.
You may be prescribed eye drops to help with healing and prevent infection. For the first week, avoid rubbing your eyes or getting water in them. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled to monitor your healing and ensure the lenses function correctly.
