Our ophthalmic physicians are surgeons with extensive postgraduate subspecialty training:
- Harmon C. Stein M.D. has been practicing ophthalmology for more than 20 years. He is on the forefront of refractive surgery with his surgical techniques including, LASIK, PRK, the latest in multifocal lens implants for cataract surgery, and the Visian ICL.
- Judith B. Lavrich M.D. has 19 years of practice in both pediatric and oculoplastic surgery. She has had over 16 years of experience in cosmetic surgery and performs advanced laser skin resurfacing and rejuvenation. She is a fellowship-trained pediatric ophthalmologist and on active staff at Wills Eye Hospital. Her areas of expertise in pediatric ophthalmology include strabismus, amblyopia, and tearing disorders.
- Vincent F. Sardi M.D. is a fellowship-trained retina specialist with more than 18 years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of vitreoretinal disease. He utilizes the most current technology available, including the latest treatments for macular degeneration and diabetes.
Our optometric physicians are fully-licensed doctors that diagnose and treat ocular disease and have a wide range of subspecialty interests:
- Paul G. Pascarella O.D. has been in practice at Total Eye Care & Cosmetic Laser Centers for more than 15 years. He is a nationally-recognized expert in contact lens fitting. His interests include comprehensive eye exams and co-management of surgical procedures.
- Christine R. Nicholson O.D. is a residency-trained optometrist in ocular disease. At Total Eye Care & Cosmetic Laser Centers she specializes in pediatric optometry and vision training, for treating strabismus and focusing abnormalities, and comprehensive family eye exams.
- Raymond M. Cianni O.D. is a graduate from the prestigious Pennsylvania College of Optometry. His practice includes the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma and preoperative management of our LASIK patients. His interests also include vision therapy and contact lenses.
Our doctors participate in and exceed the yearly continuing medical education requirements of the American Medical Association and the American Optometric Association. We remain at the forefront of our communities in utilizing the latest technology and most current treatments in eye care.

Harmon C. Stein, M.D. Director, Laser Vision Correction
Harmon C. Stein, M.D. received his medical degree in 1979 from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, and completed his ophthalmology residency at Brookdale University Hospital & Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, in 1983. He became Board Certified in Ophthalmology in 1985.
In private practice in the Delaware Valley since 1984, Dr. Stein is CEO of Total Eye Care & Cosmetic Laser Centers. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and an active member of the International Society of Refractive Surgery of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is also an active member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS). Dr. Stein has performed well over 10,000 various microsurgical procedures in his career.
Dr. Stein is the Director of Laser Vision Correction at Total Eye Care & Cosmetic Laser Centers, a private group ophthalmology practice originally founded in 1968. He has performed refractive surgery for over 20 years and introduced the Philadelphia/New Jersey area to LADARVision® for both LASIK and PRK. He is trained with the VISX® Star4, Summit Apex Plus and Technolas® laser platforms. Dr. Stein is proud to be one of the first to offer LADARWave™ Custom Cornea® LASIK in this area. He is also skilled in the use of INTRALASE® technology, the no blade ‘all laser LASIK.’ Dr. Stein is proficient in ReZoom™, ReSTOR®, and Crystalens® multifocal implant lenses for those who depend on bifocals.
Dr. Stein is an avid golfer and tennis player. He and his wife, Nadine, have three children.
Judith B. Lavrich, M.D., Director Facial Aesthetics and Oculoplastic Surgery and Director, Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus Service
Judith B. Lavrich, M.D. graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry from the University of Toledo in Ohio and received her M.D. from the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine.
Dr. Lavrich performed her internship at Northwestern University, McGaw Medical Center. She accomplished her Ophthalmology Residency at the University Of Arizona Medical Center, Department of Ophthalmology, and was trained extensively in oculoplastic surgery by one of the leading oculoplastic surgeons in the world. Dr. Lavrich completed her fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. She became Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1991. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. In 2009 she was named Top Doctor in Ophthalmology by the Consumers' Research Council of America.
As a fellowship-trained pediatric ophthalmologist, Dr. Lavrich is on active staff at Wills Eye Hospital Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology. She is an Associate Surgeon at Wills Eye Hospital and a Clinical Instructor of Ophthalmology at Thomas Jefferson University. Locally she is an Attending Surgeon at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, PA and at Capital Health System in Trenton, NJ, as well as Wills Eye Hospital Surgical Center in Northeast Philadelphia. She is the director of Facial Aesthetics and Oculoplastic Surgery at Total Eye Care & Cosmetic Laser Centers.
Over the past 15 years, Dr. Lavrich has been performing various cosmetic procedures, including ptosis repair, upper and lower lid blepharoplasty, brow lifts, laser skin resurfacing, chemical peels, BOTOX® injections, dermal fillers, microdermabrasion and micropigmentation (permanent makeup). She was one of the first doctors in Bucks County, PA with clinical training and expertise in the use of BOTOX® for the treatment of eye muscle spasms, and facial wrinkles. She incorporates the use of a variety of dermal fillers including Juvederm®, Restylane®, Radiesse™ and Sculptra®. Dr. Lavrich was also one of the first doctors in Bucks County to achieve certification in laser resurfacing techniques of the skin utilizing the CO2 UltraPulse® laser and the Protégé® erbium laser, and has been successfully treating patients with these techniques for over 14 years. She was selected as one of the top four ophthalmologists and one of the top 125 doctors in the nation as a leader in OBAGI® NU-DERM® skin rejuvenation.
As the director of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus at Total Eye Care & Cosmetic Laser Centers, she treats children and adults with double vision, turning of the eyes, tearing disorders and dry eyes. In private practice since 1991 she has extensive experience in the surgical correction of misaligned eyes in adults and children and has been sought out for her proficiency in this area.
Dr. Lavrich has published widely in the ophthalmology literature including publications in Journal of Ophthalmic Surgery, Binocular Vision, Ophthalmic Clinics of North America, Current Eye Research, Retina, Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus, Contemporary Pediatrics and Pediatric Clinics of North America. She was the author of several chapters and the co-editor of the book Strabismus Surgery published by W. B. Saunders. She has been highly involved in educating the current and future generations of doctors and nurses. She has taught many residents of ophthalmology at Wills Eye Hospital and Pennsylvania College of Osteopathic Medicine as well as students of optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. She continues to lecture at Wills Eye Hospital, in many of the community hospitals and holds yearly seminars for school nurses in Bucks County, PA.
At home with her husband and two children in Princeton, New Jersey, Dr. Lavrich enjoys gourmet cooking, gardening, yoga and reading novels.
Paul G. Pascarella O.D. Director, Adult and Pediatric Contact Lens Services
Paul G. Pascarella, O.D. is an optometric physician who is certified in the diagnosis and therapeutic management of ocular disease. Since joining Total Eye Care and Cosmetic Laser Centers in 1993, he has developed a premiere contact lens practice that specializes in contact lens fitting on some of the most challenging and difficult conditions of the eye. Patients with conditions ranging from irregular astigmatism, keratoconus, refractive and strabismic amblyopia, and presbyopia (‘age-related nearsightedness’), have all benefited from Dr. Pascarella’s years of clinical expertise with contact lenses.
After receiving his undergraduate degree from Villanova University, Dr. Pascarella went on to further his education at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He received honors for his low vision, private practice, and contact lens rotations. He acted as a consultant to the Prevention of Blindness Council and External Education department for the College of Optometry in Philadelphia PA. He currently participates in the college’s mentor program and is an adjunct faculty member in their externship program. He participates in several workshops throughout the year teaching aspiring students of optometry in the skills of contact lens fitting.
Dr. Pascarella is a member of the American Optometric Association and Pennsylvania Optometric Association. He lectures and is published on various contact lens fitting and management techniques. Dr. Pascarella has been invited to participate in nationally-recognized discussion groups, clinical research studies, as well as contributing to an instructional video series teaching doctors how to utilize various multifocal contact lens designs. Locally, Dr. Pascarella is often referred to by other eye care professionals for his expertise in the ‘hard to fit,’ complex fitting situations. He welcomes patients from a large network of practices for specialty contact lens fittings.
When Dr. Pascarella is away from the office, he enjoys coaching his children’s soccer teams, and playing golf. He and his wife have three children and reside in Richboro PA.
Christine R. Nicholson, O.D. Director, Vision Therapy Service
A Board Certified Doctor of Optometry, Christine R. Nicholson, O.D. enjoys practicing primary eye care as well as being involved in the treatment and management of ocular disease. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and she has published various articles in peer-reviewed optometric journals.
Dr. Nicholson received her undergraduate degree in Biology from the State University of New York College of Cortland. She then went on to obtain her professional degree at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia. While there she received several scholarships and awards and was inducted into Beta Sigma Kappa National Optometric Honor Society. Following graduation, Dr. Nicholson continued her education at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry and completed a one-year residency program in Primary Care, which enabled her to co-manage with ophthalmology specialists.
In addition to providing quality eye care to adults and children, Dr. Nicholson also participates in the co-management of pre and postoperative cataract and glaucoma patients, as well as the consultation and management of LASIK laser vision correction patients. She has lectured on topics involving the aging eye, and early detection and treatment of eye problems.
Dr. Nicholson is an expert in vision therapy, where she utilizes various exercises to strengthen eye muscles in cases of eye coordination, double vision, and focusing problems.
Dr. Nicholson has also had LASIK performed on herself by Dr. Stein and testifies to the excitement of freedom from glasses and contact lenses! An avid sports enthusiast, she enjoys running and outdoor activities. Christine and her husband, Brian Cohen, who is also an optometrist, have three children, and reside in Yardley PA.
Raymond M. Cianni, O.D.
Raymond M. Cianni, O.D. is the newest member to the Doctor Staff at Total Eye Care & Cosmetic Laser Centers. In addition to routine ocular health exams, Dr. Cianni’s interests include vision therapy and contact lens fitting, as well as the co-management of our LASIK patients. He is also responsible for the coordination of nationwide studies and treatment trials at Total Eye Care & Cosmetic Laser Centers.
Dr. Cianni received his undergraduate degree in Biology/Pre-Medicine from Millersville University of Pennsylvania. At Millersville University he was very active in fraternal, community-based, and school organizations. He went on to receive his professional degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.
Dr. Cianni received honors while in school for his private, contact lens, hospital, and low vision rotations. He is licensed in the diagnosis and treatment of ocular disease. Dr. Cianni is also a member of the American Optometric Association and the Pennsylvania Optometric Association.
As a result of his strong family background in education, Dr. Cianni enjoys teaching and educating members of our local community through educational seminars. The seminars help inform the public and other physicians about various eye conditions including cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetes. His latest lecture, ‘Ocular Health and the Aging Eye,’ highlights the concept that good ocular health starts with a patient’s understanding of systemic disease and how they can affect the eyes. Dr. Cianni takes his focus on eye health and necessary treatments into his exams where he enjoys a concentration on retinal disease, glaucoma and eye muscle imbalances.
Dr. Cianni enjoys playing golf and soccer, and currently resides in Yardley PA.
Vincent F. Sardi, MD, FACS
Vincent F. Sardi, MD, FACS graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania and earned his medical degree at Temple University in 1984. After finishing his ophthalmology residency at St. Vincent's Hospital and Medical Center in New York, NY he continued on to complete a fellowship in the Diseases & Surgery of the Retina and Vitreous with Retina & Vitreous Associates of Kentucky in Lexington in 1989. Dr. Sardi is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
At Total Eye Care & Cosmetic Laser Centers, Dr. Sardi treats patients who suffer from a variety of vitreoretinal diseases. Using the latest FDA-approved treatment methods he is able to offer our patients the most up-to-date management of their ocular conditions. Utilizing a variety of painless laser treatments, Dr. Sardi is able to reduce and in many situations, prevent severe vision loss from systemic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes. He also uses state-of-the-art treatments in macular degeneration to halt or impede vision loss including, Avastin, Lucentis, and Macugen. He is an active staff member at Lower Bucks Hospital and serves as a medical and surgical consultant in vitreoretinal disease and surgery in Bucks County, Pennsylvania and Mercer/Hunterdon Counties, New Jersey.
Dr. Sardi is an avid golfer and enjoys playing tennis. He resides in Skillman, NJ with his wife and two sons.
