There are several factors that contribute to the development of wrinkles. Years of sun exposure can make skin ruddy, discolored, rough, with large pores and wrinkled. Sun is one of the most damaging elements to the skin. Smoking can decrease skin oxygenation which results in loss of skin vitality, tone, and elasticity. Heredity and aging can also play a part in the formation of wrinkles as loss of skin volume and elasticity cause the skin to sag. With repetitive movements, this sagging skin bends and wrinkles are formed. Although you can limit sun exposure and smoking no one is able to change their heredity or stop aging. However, skin rejuvenation is possible in any case to reduce those unwanted wrinkles and restore skin to a more youthful appearance.

Before and After Anti Aging Treatment

At Total Eye Care & Cosmetic Laser Centers, we take a multifaceted nonsurgical approach to managing wrinkles. To fully address wrinkles you must understand where the wrinkles are originating and then treat the underlying problem. There are many types of wrinkles requiring different treatment protocols to correct.

Crepe-paper wrinkles are fine wrinkles usually found around the eyes and on the cheeks from sun exposure. Fine lines and textural problems are addressed non-surgically. Improvement in the quality of skin color and texture can be initiated by the use of various medical skin care products prescribed by our skin care team. Superficial chemical peels and intense pulse light can augment this initial treatment. Physician-supervised, medium depth chemical peels and laser resurfacing can significantly improve fine wrinkles.

Dynamic wrinkles (also known as “smile lines” or “frown lines”) result from repeated facial expressions forming creases and eventually wrinkles. These are narrow depressions in the skin are most commonly seen in the forehead, between the eyebrows, crow’s feet and around the lips. These dynamic wrinkles are most effectively treated with Botox® Cosmetic. This is a purified protein injected into the wrinkle lines to “relax” the underlying muscles causing the wrinkles to soften or disappear. Botox® Cosmetic can also be used in combination with Cosmoderm® or other dermal fillers to reduce the wrinkle further for more instant correction. Dynamic vertical wrinkles of the lips are most effectively treated by resurfacing the area with laser resurfacing or chemical peels but can be reduced temporarily with dermal fillers and Botox® Cosmetic.

Before and After BOTOX

Skinfold wrinkles are formed from loss of skin volume and subsequent sagginess of the cheeks that occur with aging. These are most commonly seen from the corner of the nose to the corner of the mouth (called nasolabial folds) and from the corner of the mouth downward (called marionette lines). Tightening the skin and restoring volume best treats skin fold wrinkles. Laser skin resurfacing is the most effective nonsurgical method to accomplish these goals. A more modest improvement of these folds can be achieved with dermal fillers to raise the wrinkle to the level of the surrounding skin making it less noticeable. All these treatments can be enhanced with medical skin care products that will help maintain skin elasticity and tone and further improve and maintain your treatment.
